Jose ‘optimistic’ Cech will stay at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he remains optimistic that Petr Cech will stay next season despite his agent suggesting the goalkeeper was free to talk to other clubs.

The 32-year-old has a year left on his current contract but has been quoted as saying he cannot have another season as understudy to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.

And agent Viktor Kolar has claimed the champions have allowed the long-serving Blues keeper to talk to other teams.

“I don’t know this is absolutely true what the agent is saying or maybe it is,” Mourinho said.

“But after that, the player has a contract and Chelsea will also have a very important say in the decision.

“I keep the saying the same; I want my best players and Petr is one of my best players and one of my most important players and I would like him to stay.

“I expect him to stay because I am positive and optimistic. I have to say I am optimistic he can be here next year.”
