Chelsea youngsters thrash Liverpool

Chelsea’s development side produced a hugely impressive second-half display to beat Liverpool 4-1.

Goals from Josi Quintero, Mason Mount, Dujon Sterling and Ike Ugbo gave the Blues their first Premier League 2 win.

After a goalless first half at Aldershot, there were three goals and a penalty save in the space of 12 second-half minutes.

Chelsea went ahead on the hour mark when Sterling, who was a constant threat on the right, crossed low for the equally impressive Quintero to fire home.

Liverpool levelled just a minute later with a cracking left-footed strike from Harry Wilson, who found the net from long range.

The lead was quickly restored when Ugo crossed and Mount reacted quickly to divert Ecuadorian midfielder Quintero’s shot into the net.

Mount was then given a chance to score again when Jordan Williams brought down Ugbo just inside the penalty area.

But the resulting spot-kick by Mount was saved by Kamil Grabara – only for a mistake by the Polish keeper to gift Chelsea a third goal soon afterwards.

The ball ricocheted into the air after Williams’ challenge on Sterling, who followed up to score after Grabara’s fumble.

Grabara did make amends with an excellent late save to deny Mount after the Blues forward had cleverly exchanged passes with Jay Dasilva.

But in injury time the hardworking Ugbo got the goal he deserved, skilfully controlling Charlie Wakefield’s right-wing cross and finishing emphatically.
