Batshuayi scores again and Morata makes Chelsea debut

Alvaro Morata made his Chelsea debut as they lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich in a pre-season friendly in Singapore.

Striker Morata, recently signed from Real Madrid in a club record £60m deal, came on as a second-half substitute at the National Stadium, where Michy Batshuayi and Marcos Alonso got Chelsea’s goals.

Alonso scored on the stroke of half-time after Bayern had raced into a three-goal lead, with Thomas Muller scoring twice for the German side.

And Batshuayi, who ended last season in fine goalscoring form and also scored twice in Saturday’s friendly against Arsenal, pulled another goal back with four minutes remaining.

The Blues, with Andreas Christensen at the centre of their defence and youngster Jeremie Boga also in the starting line-up, were 2-0 down within 12 minutes.

Keeper Thibaut Courtois was beaten by Rafinha’s long-range effort and found himself picking the ball out of his net again when Muller volleyed home after being set up by Franck Ribery.

James Rodriguez missed a chance to make it 3-0 before Muller netted again a couple of minutes before the half-hour mark, brilliantly curling his shot beyond Courtois from 25 yards.

Boga had a decent chance to pull a goal back after being set up by Cesc Fabregas but was denied by veteran keeper Tom Starke.

And as Chelsea improved towards the end of the first half, Alonso blasted over after linking up with Willian, before Starke produced another impressive save, this time to keep out Batshuayi’s shot.

Gary Cahill then went close for Chelsea, heading narrowly wide from Fabregas’ corner.

The Premier League champions eventually found the target courtesy of a fine strike from Alonso, who thumped the ball past Starke after being teed up by Victor Moses.

Morata was introduced on 64 minutes and his former Real team-mate James then twice went close to scoring, sending one effort just wide of the far post and seeing another well saved by Courtois.

At the other end, Willian fired over after being found by Batshuayi, David Luiz’s deflected shot hit the post, Batshuayi shot wide and Fikayo Tomori went close with a header before Batshuayi tapped in from close range following Fabregas’ corner.
