Former Italy keeper invited to train with Chelsea

Former AC Milan and Italy goalkeeper Marco Amelia has been invited to train with Chelsea.

Manager Jose Mourinho is eager to bring in cover for Asmir Begovic following an injury to first-choice number one Thibaut Courtois.

Amelia, 33, who has nine caps for his country, is a free agent and could sign outside of the transfer window because Chelsea have space left in their Premier League squad.

Amelia was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup squad and last represented his country in 2009.

He has also been at Livorno, Palermo and Genoa, but has barely played since leaving AC Milan in 2014.

Courtois has been ruled out until December with a knee injury.
