Lampard goal ‘no drama’ for Mourinho
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was reluctant to talk about Frank Lampard after the midfielder came off the bench to scupper his old side’s bid for three points at the Etihad Stadium.
Lampard’s late leveller made it 1-1, but the Blues boss was in no mood to discuss the former England star’s strike – his first goal since joining Manchester City on loan from New York City.
Mourinho said: “He used to play for Chelsea and [Luis] Suarez used to play for Liverpool and now plays for Barcelona. What’s the drama of the situation? For me, there is no drama.
“I don’t speak about players from other teams. I don’t speak about Frank. To speak about Frank is to speak about my past – the player he was for me in my career.
“I will be never be tired to speak about this. But at the moment he is a Man City player and I don’t speak about other team’s players.
“I am Chelsea manager. I speak about my players and my players they did fantastic.”
Mourinho admitted City deserved their equaliser but hit back at suggestions by opposing manager Manuel Pelligrini that the Blues were ultra-defensive.
He said: “Many times Pellegrini says he never speaks about me or about my team, but he keeps doing the same thing. Don’t ask me about his words, because I’m not interested in that.
“We were very very good. We didn’t see it out because we hit the post with a 1-0 lead and when you don’t kill matches, you are in danger, especially against very good teams. We had a tactical reaction to try to win the game.
“They had an emotional reaction to try not to lose the game. We were successful in our tactical change to try to win the game.
“They were successful in their emotional reaction and I think in the end, the point was maybe a point that they deserved.”
Mourinho added: “We arrived here leaders with two points more than the second team and we leave the stadium with three points lead. I look to the table and we are leaders with three points.
“We come here to a super difficult stadium to a super difficult opponent and we leave in better conditions than we when we arrived.”
