Referees have cost Chelsea points – Jose

Jose Mourinho pointed the finger at referee Phil Dowd for “incredible decisions” the Chelsea boss claimed damaged his team’s chances of victory in a remarkable derby against Tottenham.

Mourinho remonstrated with fourth official Andre Marriner during the first half after Dowd turned down two penalty appeals for handball.

Mourinho admitted Chelsea, beaten 5-3 at White Hart Lane, made individual errors. But, having talked of a ‘campaign’ against them after Sunday’s draw with Southampton, he suggested officials had cost the Blues five points in their last two games.

He said: “We made some defensive mistakes, plus we were unlucky in every rebound and with deflected shots.

“But I can go in another direction and say what we all know. With the score at 1-0 [to Chelsea], one clear action could make it 2-0 and the history of the game would be different.

“When you have doubts, everyone has a different opinion. But against Southampton there was no discussion and today there is no discussion too.

“We’ve got one point out of six when two crucial decisions give us six points. The points are the important thing because the normal tendancy is for people to forget the decisions.

“The reality is that in three days we had two incredible decisions that punished us in a very hard way.”

However, Mourinho appeared to distance himself from his post-match comments on television, when he suggested Dowd was too slow to keep up with play when Spurs’ Federico Fazio tangled with Eden Hazard inside the box.

The Portuguese said: “That is the kind of situation you accept is difficult for him and for everyone.

“The one in the first half, which is clear – as the one against Southampton was also clear – is difficult to accept.”
