Jose ‘flattered’ by comparison to Clough

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to the late Brian Clough and insisted there is no comparison to be drawn between himself and the legendary former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager.

Neil Warnock, whose Crystal Palace team face Chelsea on Saturday, this week likened Mourinho to the man many believed should have been England boss during his brilliant managerial career.

Clough, who died in 2004, led both Derby and Forest to the league title and Forest were twice European champions under him.

“I obviously feel very flattered but I think there is no comparison with Mr Clough, who is a legend in English football,” Mourinho said.

“What he did, especially with Nottingham Forest, stays forever. He is a real legend and I think it is a big loss for English football that he went so early.

“If Neil makes that comment then it makes me proud, but I think the legacy of Mr Clough has no comparison.”
