We wanted to clinch title at home – Jose

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said the motivation of being able to win the title at Stamford Bridge on Sunday spurred them on to victory at Leicester.

Mourinho’s men were second best in the first half and trailed to Marc Albrighton’s goal at the break.

But a pulsating second-half display saw the Blues win in style thanks to goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry and Ramires.

“We all had in our minds to try to do it at Stamford Bridge,” said Mourinho, whose side can secure the title by beating Crystal Palace. “The great motivation was to bring the title to Stamford Bridge.

“I think at Stamford Bridge, they [the fans] cannot celebrate yet. Sunday, I hope they go there not to celebrate but to play the match with us and push the team – and that is the spirit we have in our camp.

“The boys in the dressing room, they are happy not because they won the title but because they are one step closer. And that must be the spirit for Sunday.”

Mourinho was thrilled with his side’s second-half performance after a testing opening 45 minutes.

“It was a difficult first half against a very good difficult team,” he said.

“They were very well organised defensively, pressing very well and closing spaces and very aggressive in the way they played with the ball.

“They were defending well and trying to score on the counter-attack, which they did.

“In the second half the early goal was important and after that we were completely in control. We played so, so well.

“We were so fluid that the goal had to arrive. The boys were fantastic.”
