Terry pondering ‘different role’ at Chelsea

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Chelsea v Southampton - Stamford Bridge

John Terry says the contract offer from Chelsea is a “different role” and he won’t rush into a decision.

The Blues skipper had indicated that he expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

But Chelsea revealed on Friday that they had offered Terry, 35, a one-year extension after a meeting with director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck.

A Blues spokesperson said: “With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering.”

However, in a response on his Instagram page, Terry said: “The contract extension the club has offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision.”

Terry made his Chelsea debut in 1998 and has made more than 700 appearances for the Blues.
