Bamford needed another loan move – Hiddink

Guus Hiddink insists Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford had to go out on loan to get more game time, but says his replacement Alexandre Pato will not be rushed in to the first team.

Bamford, 22 , has joined Norwich City on a deal until the end of the season, with 26-year-old Brazil international striker Pato also signing until the end of the current campaign.

Blues boss Hiddink, whose side thrashed MK Dons 5-1 to set up a fifth-round FA Cup tie at home against Manchester City, said of Bamford: “He is a typical striker who needs to play a lot.

“If he would have stayed with Chelsea it is not for good for him. He needs to play and get competition.”

Pato, who last appeared for Brazil in 2013, is not yet ready to feature in the first team, but took part in a “light training session” on Saturday, Hiddink revealed.

Hiddink said Pato had already been working on his physical condition, but added: “I don’t want to force it and press it.

“I want to have more data and have my eye on him and how he is because he is in pre-season.

“I want him to integrate. We try to build him up as soon as possible.”
