Hat-trick for Solanke as young Blues win

Dominic Solanke scored a hat-trick as Chelsea’s youngsters demolished Sporting Lisbon 6-0 in the Uefa Youth League ahead of the first team’s Champions League match against the Portuguese club.

Jeremie Boga scored twice and Charly Musonda also found the net in a one-sided game at the Blues’ Cobham training ground.

Boga set the ball rolling with a free-kick before Solanke made it 2-0 with a close-range finish after Charlie Colkett’s cross had been headed back across goal by Andreas Christensen.

It was 3-0 by the interval courtesy of Boga’s lovely finish after he had exchanged passes with Solanke, who scored twice in the second half.

Solanke netted after being teed up by Christensen and then rounded the keeper to score following good work by Musonda.

There was still time for Musonda to add the sixth with a superbly-struck free-kick.

The result continued a trend of emphatic wins by Chelsea’s youngsters.

The Under-19s had previously  thrashed Sporting 5-0, Maribor 7-0 and Schalke 4-1 in the same competition and in October the Under-18s demolished Aston Villa 12-2.

Chelsea’s win also ensures they will finish top of their group and will therefore be drawn at home in a one-legged round-of-16 tie next year.
