Purslow given commercial role by Chelsea

Chelsea have appointed former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow to lead the club’s worldwide commercial activities.

Purslow, 50, stepped down as Liverpool managing director in October 2010 after just over a year in the role and he left his position as the club’s special adviser in February of the following year.

In a statement, Chelsea said they had ambitious plans to build the “Premier League’s most pioneering global commercial programme” and believed Purslow’s vision and leadership qualities would help achieve that.

‎Chelsea say they are not planning more senior appointments in the near future as chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia have taken on responsibilities held by chief executive Ron Gourlay, whose departure was announced last week.
