Antonio Conte felt Chelsea’s change of formation worked well in the victory at Hull.

Following back-to-back league defeats, Blues boss Conte made significant changes for the game against the Tigers and saw his team return to winning ways.

Out went Branislav Ivanovic as Conte switched to a back three of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta.

“It can be a big change in the tactical aspect. More than the system, what is important is the principles,” Conte said after the 2-0 win.

“This week we’ve worked a lot. We must find the right way to be more compact, and a clean sheet is important for the confidence.

“We are working very hard and we must continue in this way. We have different options, that’s normal. Together we win, together we lose.”

Diego Costa was on top form, setting up Willian for Chelsea’s opening goal and then doubling the lead with a fine strike, taking his tally for the season to six.

“It’s fantastic for him and for us that he’s scored six goals,” Conte declared.

“Diego has opportunities in every game but what’s important is the work he does for the team, together with Willian and Eden Hazard.

“After two defeats it’s never easy, but I’m pleased with the commitment and attitude, We are working very hard. If we want to improve there is only one way: to work.”
