Cole says he expects to leave Chelsea

Ashley Cole says he expects to leave Chelsea this summer.

The 33-year-old, whose contract will soon expire, has spent eight years at Stamford Bridge, during which he has won the Premier League and Champions League.

He wrote on Twitter: “I am weighing up my options for playing next season with my agent – sadly it does not look like Chelsea will be one of them.”

Since being signed from Arsenal, Cole has also won four FA Cups, the League Cup and the Europa League with Chelsea.

But last season was a frustrating one. He lost his place in the Blues side, starting only 15 league games.

And he was recently left out of England’s World Cup squad, prompting him to announce his international retirement having won 107 caps.

“Now I’ll be looking for another journey in my life. I hope it can be like my others, full of fun and of course win something,” Cole added.

“Thank you Chelsea for making my eight years a pleasure. We’ve been through a lot, good and bad.

“And of course the fans. How do I start, I can only say thank you for giving the boys confidence to win some amazing trophies.

“To the fans that have stood buy me through thick and thin, I will always have you in my heart.”
