Blues youngsters win to reach semi-final

Chelsea’s Under-19s beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Uefa Youth League.

A first-half own goal by Fran Manzanara put the young Blues ahead in a tight quarter-final at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground, where Dominic Solanke [pictured] netted a late second.

The opening goal came when Charlie Colkett’s excellent ball over the top found Izzy Brown, whose cross was turned into his own net by Manzanara under pressure from Andreas Christensen.

Brown went close with an effort in the second half but Chelsea had to absorb some late pressure, with keeper Bradley Collins producing a fine save to deny Amath Diedhiou.

Chelsea defended resolutely and their victory was sealed two minutes from time when Solanke applied the finish after being set up by Christensen.

They will face either Manchester City or Roma in the semi-final in Switzerland on 10 April.
