Mikel vows to see out Chelsea contract

Midfielder John Obi Mikel has told Chelsea’s official website he wants to see out his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Rumours during the summer had linked the 28-year-old with a move to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates.

But Mikel, now the Blues’ second longest-serving player, insists he has the backing of Jose Mourinho to remain a key part of Chelsea’s squad.

He said: “I want to stay and the manager wants me to stay. I’ve got two years [on my contract] here and I’m happy.

“Every day I come to work it is like coming in to see my family. I know all the players and all the staff so it’s going to be a hard place to leave when my contract runs out but let’s see what happens.

“I want to see out my two years.”

Mikel has made 339 appearances for Chelsea since joining in 2006, scoring five goals.
