Rennes want to keep Chelsea youngster Boga

Boga has looked a fine prospect

Rennes coach Rolland Courbis has told French television he wants to keep on-loan Chelsea teenager Jeremie Boga at the club next season.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been used mainly as an impact player this term, with 17 of his 22 appearances in Ligue 1 coming as a substitute.

Breaking into the Rennes team has been difficult as they are among a clutch of clubs challenging for a Champions League place.

However, Courbis told beIN Sport’s Ligue 1 Show that he wanted to extend Boga’s loan whether or not they secure European football.

He said: “Right now he is still learning his trade, and that’s logical given his age. But he has already forced his way in to our attacking plans.

“As far as I’m concerned, he’s in the same boat as [Rennes striker Ousmane] Dembele. He has to continue his development over the next 18 months, two years.

“I think it’d be good for him and for Rennes if he played another season here.”
