Chelsea assess Fabregas hamstring injury

Chelsea are hoping a hamstring injury picked up by Cesc Fabregas during their Capital One Cup triumph against Liverpool does not prove to be serious.

Fabregas went off early in the second half of Tuesday’s semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge and could be a doubt for this weekend’s vital Premier League game at home to title rivals Manchester City.

But the playmaker indicated to boss Jose Mourinho that the problem was not serious.

Left-back Filipe Luis, meanwhile, is also being assessed after suffering a calf injury during the match.

Mourinho said: “Filipe is a calf injury and Fabregas is hamstring. At the moment I don’t know [how serious].

“Fabregas told me ‘I’m not yet injured, but I will be in a few minutes’, so it [taking him off] was a precaution, but at this moment I don’t know.”

Branislav Ivanovic, who scored Chelsea’s winner against the Reds, also picked up a knock but was able to complete the game.
