Chelsea fell to a 1-0 defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium after a below-par display. Here’s how we rated each Blues player.

Thibaut Courtois: 6

He had very little to do throughout and had no chance with Marko Arnautovic’s winner.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6

Azpilicueta was the steadiest of Chelsea’s defenders but was not as dominant as usual.

Andreas Christensen: 5

Had a difficult afternoon dealing with West Ham’s movement up front and could have done better in the build-up to Arnautovic’s winner.

Gary Cahill: 6

Cahill played one awful pass that could have led to a goal before the break, but looked solid enough albeit against a side that showed very little ambition after taking an early lead.

Davide Zappacosta: 6

Zappacosta’s energy levels were impressive, he was always available in attack and was unlucky not to score with a decent strike before the break.

Tiemoue Bakayoko: 5

The Frenchman made a couple of surging runs but was largely ineffective, too ponderous and was withdrawn at the interval.

N’Golo Kante: 7

Created two good chances in the final 10 minutes and stood out with his workrate and quality in a very average team performance.

Cesc Fabregas: 5

A few moments of quality threatened to create and equaliser and he started to boss the match in the first period, but he was generally quiet.

Eden Hazard: 6

Chelsea’s best attacking player, but struggled to find space against West Ham’s deep-lying defence in the second half and missed a decent late chance when he shot over.

Alvaro Morata: 5

Missed a great chance late on, shooting wide when he really should have scored. He could easily have earned a penalty before the interval but was kept quiet throughout by the impressive Winston Reid.

Pedro: 5

He was busy after coming on at the break but could not provide a telling moment.

Victor Moses: 6

Saw plenty of the ball but was often crowded out – and when he did beat his man he was often fouled.

Willian: 5

The Brazilian has several encouraging moments, but like his fellow forwards was not as accurate with his delivery as he ended to be against a packed defence.
