Drogba rejoins Chelsea on one-year deal

Chelsea have confirmed the return of Didier Drogba on a one-year deal.

Drogba, 36, was a free agent after leaving Galatasaray and is reunited with Jose Mourinho, who signed him during the Portuguese’s first spell as Blues boss.

The striker left Stamford Bridge to join Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua two years ago when his contract ended.

Weeks earlier he played a starring role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich, scoring a late equaliser and then netting the winning penalty in a dramatic shoot-out.

Signed from Marseille for £24m in 2004, Drogba also won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups with Chelsea and scored 157 goals in his 342 appearances for the club.

He remains a hugely popular figure among fans, who voted him the Blues’ greatest ever player in a poll in 2012 and gave him as hero’s welcome when he featured for Galatasary against Chelsea at the Bridge in last season’s Champions League.
