Costa praised for his conduct after Chelsea’s win

Antonio Conte praised Diego Costa for his conduct as well as his performance during Chelsea’s stunning win at Manchester City.

The Blues stayed top of the Premier League by coming from behind to win 3-1 with second-half goals from Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard.

City ended the match with nine men after Sergio Aguero was sent off for a challenge on David Luiz and Fernandinho was dismissed for lashing out at Cesc Fabregas during the melee which followed.

Striker Costa, so often the subject of controversy for his behaviour, appeared to try to act as peacemaker during angry scenes near the touchline.

“Diego is showing he is using his passion in the right way and I’m very happy about that,” boss Conte said.

Conte chose not to attend the post-match press conference after the game.

But the Italian told Sky Sports: “I think today was very tough and the game was open until the end. There were lots of chances for both teams to score.

“I saw lots of character from my team and that’s very important to grow. But we must continue to work and improve.”
