Conte focused on making history

Antonio Conte has insisted that achieving success is much more important to him than money.

The Chelsea boss was responding to reports he is in line for an improved contract for leading his team to the Premier League title.

The Blues need only to win one of their three remaining matches to be crowned champions and can seal the title by beating West Brom on Friday evening.

There have also been reports that Inter Milan’s Chinese owners are ready to offer Conte huge wages to tempt him to take over at the San Siro.

But Conte, who has played for and managed Juventus and Italy during his long career at the top level, says making history comes before making cash.

“When you reach a type of level, the money could be important but it is not always,” he said.

“When you stay at this level, the money only tells you your value. It’s not important.

“You work in football, before as a player to try to play at the top level for many years, and then it stays the same when you become a coach, and money is not as important as winning.

“What is important is to write history at the club where you work.”
