Chelsea youngsters edge out Leicester to make FA Youth Cup semis yet again

Chelsea Under-18s reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals for the eighth year in a row after a 1-0 win over Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Ike Ugbo scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half, when he timed his run perfectly to meet a Reece James cross and headed powerfully into the net.

A couple of minutes earlier he had nodded wide from close range after a hanging cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea were the better side for most of the game, with Mason Mount particularly influential early on.

He struck a shot narrowly wide from 25 yards and then delivered a cross which Ugbo could only nod straight at the goalkeeper.

Leicester did have a good spell early in the second half, and Kairo Arlott-Edwards saw a deflected shot come back off the post.

But Chelsea responded and after breaking through with Ugbo’s goal, Jody Morris’ side looked comfortable.

Jacob Maddox forced a good save from Foxes keeper Cameron Yates late on and the hosts were unable to muster a threat.
