Musonda set to play in Under-23s game

Charly Musonda is set to play for Chelsea’s development side on Saturday.

The 20-year-old midfielder was recalled from a season-long loan at Real Betis, where he was troubled by a knee problem.

Antonio Conte, who recently decided against sending him back out on loan, revealed on Friday that Musonda will not be involved in this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Wolves.

Musonda, who has not played a first-team match since November, will instead get a run-out for the Under-23s against Manchester City.

And Chelsea boss Conte added that he could include Musonda, who is yet to make his senior debut for the Blues, once the Belgian’s fitness improves.

“He is not in the squad for tomorrow. He is working very hard in the training sessions, but also needs supplementary work with the physical coach,” Conte explained.

“Tomorrow he’ll play with the Under-23s because they have a good game against Manchester City.

“I think it’s better for him to play a whole game and then in the next games if he deserves to come with us, I am open for this eventuality.”
