Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante suffered a hamstring injury while playing for France in a World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria.

The midfielder limped off after 34 minutes in Sofia, where his team’s 1-0 win took them closer to qualification for next summer’s tournament.

The injury is being assessed and it is not yet known whether Kante is likely to be available for Chelsea’s next game, away at Crystal Palace on 14 October.

Chelsea’s midfield options are already limited, with summer signing Danny Drinkwater still nursing a calf problem.

Meanwhile, Blues striker Alvaro Morata could be out for several weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up during the recent defeat against Manchester City.
