Chelsea youngster Abraham aiming to be ‘big star’

Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham says he is determined to finish his loan spell at Bristol City on a high before his next step on the road to being the “big star” he believes he can become.

The 19-year-old has had a sensational season in the Championship and the brace he scored against Wolves on Saturday took his tally to 24 goals.

But although he admits he is starting to think about his next move, Abraham will not be distracted from the task in hand – which is to help City avoid relegation in their final five games.

“I think [next season] is something that’s played on my mind,” said the striker.

“I’ve asked myself the same question, and I’ve asked my parents, and I’ve seen what my agents are saying, but I think I have to get through this season first and finish on a high then I can start focusing on next year.

“Obviously it would be a dream for me to move from here to play in the Premier League, but I have to focus on here first and give myself that chance for people to see me and keep doing everything I can for Bristol City.

“I love this club [City] and like to give my all in the last remaining games to show what I’m truly made of. Not just the goals but my desire to help this team stay in this division.”

A loan spell with a top-flight team still seems the likeliest scenario for Abraham, but his ultimate ambition is beyond doubt.

“I believe in myself,” he said. “I believe in my ability. I know that I’ve got massive potential to be a big star in the world and I’m just going to keep driving myself to do whatever I can, and this is the first step. I’m willing to take any challenge that comes my way.

“It would be lovely to be in the Chelsea first-team squad but I know it’s not easy. A couple of my mates are there and they’re not getting game time so it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be a challenge.

“But I’d love to finish the season on a high to make a statement for myself and make a name for myself to be knocking on that door.”
