Chelsea on verge of Cuadrado deal

Chelsea are edging closer to a deal to sign Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, according to the Italian side’s coach.

Vincenzo Montella has said the Colombian international’s move to Stamford Bridge – which would see Mohamed Salah go in the opposite direction on loan – “was a sale that had to be done”.

The fee for the 26-year-old is expected to be for around £27m, but neither club have yet confirmed the deal.

“The club has done the right thing because we are also getting a very good player,” Montella told a news conference on Friday.

Egypt winger Salah, 22, has only started 10 games since joining the Blues from Swiss side Basel just over a year ago.

Meanwhile, Andre Schurrle is expected to join Salah in leaving Chelsea, with a return to German Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in his homeland seemingly set to go through.

Schurrle, 24, has made 64 appearances for the Blues since signing in the summer of 2013.

But the World Cup winner has only just made more starts than substitute appearances and has only made the starting line-up in the Premier League five times this season.
