Chelsea confirm deal to sign striker Costa

Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid to sign striker Diego Costa after meeting the buy-out clause in his contract.

The Spain international, who recently featured in the World Cup, is set to move to Stamford Bridge for around £32m.

Costa, 25, scored 36 goals in 52 games for Atletico last season, helping them win the La Liga title and reach the final of the Champions League.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has long made it clear he is determined to sign at least one top-level striker before the start of next season.

Blues forwards Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba managed a total of 19 goals between them last term.

Nine of them were scored by Eto’o, who has been released after his contract expired.
