Chelsea U21s beat MK Dons in friendly

Lucas Piazon played for Chelsea’s Under-21 side as they won 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at MK Dons, where Tammy Abraham scored the winner.

Nathan Ake levelled for the young Blues after former QPR striker Tom Hitchcock – son of ex-Chelsea man Kevin – put the Championship newcomers ahead.

And Abraham’s goal secured a deserved win for the visitors, whose strong line-up also included the likes of Oriol Romeu, Nathaniel Chalobah, Jeremie Boga and Islam Feruz.

Brazilian youngster Piazon, who spent last season on loan with German side Eintracht Frankfurt, played the entire match and almost scored six minutes from the end.

Hitchcock volleyed home against the run of play in the first half.

Chelsea had dominated the opening stages, with Romeu and Boga going close to putting them in front.

The response to MK Dons’ goal was swift – Ake equalised from close range after keeper Cody Cropper was unable to hold Boga’s shot.

Abraham, on as a substitute, put the visitors in front with a near-post header from Ake’s cross 11 minutes into the second half.

Romeu, who scored with a superb strike in a friendly at Aldershot last week, went close to scoring again with another long-range effort that fizzed just over.

And the impressive Cropper produced late saves to deny Abraham and John Swift.
