Chelsea boss rules out Torres return

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has ruled out a return to Stamford Bridge for Fernando Torres.

The striker joined AC Milan in the summer on a two-year loan deal and there has been speculation that the Italian club are looking to offload him.

But Mourinho, who signed Loic Remy to replace Torres, insisted there would be no room in his squad for the Spaniard.

“He is on loan for two seasons. He is our player but is on loan,” Mourinho said.

“We have no space – no space for players in our list in the Champions League or the Premier League. That is an impossible picture.”

And he added: “Nobody from AC Milan made contact with us so probably nothing is true and – more than possible – he is happy at Milan and Milan are happy to have him.”

Torres, 30, moved to west London from Liverpool for a then British record £50m in January 2011 but struggled to live up his price tag, scoring only 20 goals in 110 league appearances.

His Chelsea contract, like his loan deal at Milan, ends in 2016.
