Chelsea beat Newcastle in FA Youth Cup

Izzy Brown scored one goal and made two as reigning FA Cup youth holders Chelsea secured a sixth consecutive semi-final place with an extra-time victory against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

The Blues had the better of things for 90 minutes, but missed a number of decent chances – most notably from the penalty spot inside five minutes when Brown’s tame low strike was easily saved by goalkeeper Freddie Woodman after Jay Dasilva was felled.

Newcastle, with Adam Armstrong a constant danger, did also threaten and forced goalkeeper Bradley Collins to pull off a couple of exceptional saves in the second period.

But it was the Blues who found the breakthrough in the first period of extra-time, Brown expertly rounding Woodman and scoring in to an empty net after a fine pass from Kyle Scott.

Dominic Solanke (pictured) grabbed Chelsea’s second, in front of more than 11,000 fans, when he ran on to Brown’s pass and finished calmly.

And the third goal arrived when Tammy Abraham got across his man at the near post and slotted home Brown’s cross from close-range.

Tottenham or Nottingham Forest await Chelsea in the last four.
