Burnley v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea were below their best – and were made to work hard for their point at Burnley. Here’s how we rated each Blues player in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Thibaut Courtois: 6

Had no chance with the free-kick which beat him, but made a crucial save with his feet to deny Matt Lowton near half-time.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 7

Took a blow to the head from Ashley Barnes early on, but it was not enough to knock him out of his polished stride. Hit one decent 25-yarder just over the bar.

David Luiz: 6

Got in some vital headers and interceptions when Burnley upped their tempo at the start of the second half. Booked for dissent, but otherwise commanding against the dangerous Andre Gray.

Gary Cahill: 6

Will feel he might have done better to nip a dangerous first-half move in the bud when Lowton almost scored, but overall the skipper proved dependable.

Victor Moses: 6

Brilliant run and cross to set up the early strike from Pedro, but grew less influential as the game wore on and eventually made way for Willian.

N’Golo Kante: 8

Provided another masterclass in the art of pocket-pinching and defensive shielding. A major nuisance to the home side.

Nemanja Matic: 5

Soft foul on Joey Barton gave away the free-kick from which Robbie Brady curled in a great equaliser. Another mistake also allowed Barnes to set up Andre Gray. Not a great day for the Blues midfielder.

Marcos Alonso: 6

Workmanlike, though not able to put in any of the telling crosses that have sometimes been a feature of his season.

Pedro: 8

Full of running and always eager to kick-start an attack. His early goal was well worked and he kept up high energy levels after switching to the left when Willian came on.

Diego Costa: 6

Some typically impressive hold-up play and battling. Almost capitalised on a Ben Mee slip to score, but had few clear sights of goal.

Eden Hazard: 7

Rolls Royce performance at times; the way he glided between the lines and opened up spaces was a joy to watch. But he became a bit less of a threat as the game wore on.

Cesc Fabregas: 6

On for Matic for the final quarter. Booked for breaking up a late counter-attack, but offered some sharp passes.
