Bamford eyes longer Middlesbrough stay

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has told Teesside’s Evening Gazette that he wants to extend his loan spell at Middlesbrough.

The England Under-21 striker has scored five goals in 13 appearances for the Championship high-flyers and is due to return to Stamford Bridge in January.

But Bamford says he is enjoying working under Boro boss Aitor Karanka, who has spoken with Blues counterpart Jose Mourinho about the striker’s future.

And the 21-year-old hopes the two clubs can agree to let him remain at the Riverside Stadium until the end of the season.

He said: “At the moment, I’m only here until the New Year, but I’m keen to stay.

“I like it here, I like the manager. He believes in me, which is important, so far I don’t think there’s any reason for me to go back.”
