Chelsea Ladies beat Montpellier in Champions League quarter-final first leg

Chelsea Ladies took a huge step towards the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League by winning 2-0 at Montpellier in the quarter-final first leg.

JI So-Yun and Erin Cuthbert scored in the second half for the English side, whose away goals could prove to be crucial.

South Korea international Ji slotted into the far corner after being cleverly set up by Fran Kirby’s pass.

And Cuthbert, on as a substitute, headed in from Magda Eriksson’s corner to double the lead.

Chelsea had to absorb plenty of pressure and the home side hit the woodwork twice.

In the first half, with the scoreline goalless, Virginia Torrecilla’s header was pushed against the woodwork by keeper Hedvig Lindahl.

And as Montpellier pushed for an equaliser following the opening goal, Katrine Veje fired against the post.

Chelsea’s Ramona Bachmann also hit the post, just failing to finish from a tight angle with the score at 1-0.
