Ledesma features again as Brentford lose

Dean Smith

Brentford boss Dean Smith took another look at former QPR man Emmanuel Ledesma as his side were beaten 1-0 by Peterborough at Griffin Park.

Ledesma, who is on trial with the Bees, played the last half-hour in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Kaiserslautern and had 25 minutes in this, his latest run out.

The only goal of the game came after just two minutes. Left-back Tom Field was dispossessed 35 yards from his own goal, which allowed Shaq Coulthirst to tee up Paul Taylor and he slotted home from just inside the box.

Brentford’s Jan Holldack tried to respond with a shot which rebounded to safety off the chest of Posh keeper Ben Alnwick, while Taylor could have had a second but screwed right across the face of goal when well-placed.

The Bees, though, continued to have the better chances. Scott Hogan had a shot saved and Sam Saunders curled an effort just over, while, in the second half, Alnwick made a double block to deny Hogan and then Romaine Sawyers.

But while they were often on the back foot, Peterborough remained a threat on the break and should have made it 2-0 when Marcus Maddison’s low cross was somehow spooned over the bar by Coulthirst from close range.

Ledesma fired a couple of efforts over the bar, while summer signing John Egan – arriving in the penalty area – misconnected with a shot and hit it straight at Alnwick’s midriff.
