‘Stronger’ Hogan could get starting place, says Smith

Scott Hogan is a stronger player following his recovery from injury, according to Brenford boss Dean Smith who is considering giving the striker a starting place against MK Dons at the weekend.

Hogan, who recently returned to action after 18 months on the sidelines, came off the bench to score twice in a 2-1 win over Cardiff on Tuesday.

And Smith said: “He’s very intelligent but he’s a lot stronger now with the strengthening work he’s done to protect his injury.

“He can mix it with some of the biggest centre-halves in this division. He’s showed what he’s about. His first was a poacher’s goal and then he showed great pace at times.

“I’m sure he’ll be knocking on my door to start next week but that’s a decision I’ll have to take.

“He’s a great player to bring on when the game is stretched at the moment. Am I asking too much if I put him on from the start? That’s something I’ll have to sleep on.”

Meanwhile, Alan McCormack is in line for a new one-year contract after his appearance against Cardiff triggered a clause in his current deal.
