Striker Long set to return for second leg

Mark Warburton has insisted that Chris Long is in contention to return for Brentford’s Championship play-off second leg at Middlesbrough.

The on-loan Everton striker recently returned to the Merseyside club for treatment after suffering gashed leg and he missed Brentford’s first-leg defeat against Boro on Friday.

But Bees boss Warburton told West London Sport:  “When any loan player is injured the parent club recalls them for an assessment – that’s how these things work.

“Chris suffered a nasty gash on his leg that required treatment but he will resume the loan and return to us on Monday, and he will be in contention to play next Friday.

“We have an excellent relationship with Everton, who have stayed in close contact and are fully within their rights to protect their player.”
