Pritchard hails Brentford’s resilience

Alex Pritchard believes Brentford’s ability to bounce back from defeat is contributing to their excellent start to the season.

The Bees have responded to recent losses at Middlesbrough and Watford by beating Leeds and then Reading, and have won following a defeat on four occasions this season.

Midfielder Pritchard, who is on loan from Tottenham and will join up with England’s Under-21s this week, says the Bees squad have shown their resilience.

“We shouldn’t have lost to Watford but you’ve got to get over games quickly in this league. We lost 4-0 to Middlesbrough but won the next game and did the same against Reading,” he said.

“We’re doing it. We’re together, a good unit, and we’ve showed we can beat teams who are top-six and quality sides.

“Teams are going to come to Griffin Park and struggle because we play good football and the fans get behind us.”

Pritchard scored the second goal in the 3-1 win over the Royals – his second goal in 10 appearances this season.

And he said: “I needed it. Blackpool was my last one I said to myself I had to score.

“I don’t know what’s happened to my assists either, and how I’ve not had one since the start of the season, but I’ve got one of those too against Reading and hopefully I’ll get more.

“I haven’t set myself any targets or anything but playing that high up the pitch, the main thing you have to do is score and create goals.”
