Midfielder Reeves released by Brentford

Jake Reeves has joined Swindon on a short-term deal after the midfielder’s Brentford contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 21-year-old, a product of the Bees’ youth system, made 47 first team appearances after making his debut in 2011, including 25 in all competitions last season.

His deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but a flood of new midfield arrivals pushed him down the pecking order at Griffin Park and he will now seek regular football elsewhere.

Brentford boss Mark Warburton said: “Jake has done a fantastic job for us. He has come through the academy system here, he is well-liked, well respected and very talented.

“But he needs to play week in, week out, and with the level of player we have here now, that opportunity is not available at Brentford.

“His contribution should be recognised and I wish him well for the future.”

Reeves was snapped up by Brentford after leaving Tottenham aged 16 and captained the youth team in 2010-11, before being rewarded with his first-team debut on the final day of that season.

He spent loan spells at St. Albans City and AFC Wimbledon and became a regular in the first team matchday squad last season, as the Bees won promotion to the Championship.

He made six starts in League One, came on as a substitute 14 times and was on the bench for the vast majority of the other matches, having signed a two-year deal at the beginning of the campaign.
