Judge the hero as Bees get first win under Carsley

Brentford 2 Rotherham 1

Alan Judge inspired Brentford to their first win under Lee Carsley.

Judge fired home in the opening minute and then headed in the winner after Joe Mattock had equalised with a thumping strike in the first minute of the second half.

Carsley, placed in charge following the recent sacking of Marinus Dijkhuizen, gave on-loan duo Sergi Canos and John Swift their full debuts and both played their part in an improved Bees display.

They made the perfect start when Judge scored with a glorious volley after Rotherham had failed to fully clear Nico Yennaris’ cross.

The Millers, playing their first match under new boss Neil Redfearn, hit back with a cracking goal of their own – Mattock’s left-footed strike from near the edge of the penalty area gave keeper David Button little chance.

But Judge responded with his second goal of the game, heading in Jake Bidwell’s 57th-minute cross to restore his team’s lead.

He was denied a hat-trick by a smart save from keeper Lee Camp, while Button prevented an equaliser when he produced a fine stop to keep out Paul Green’s header.
