Gray and Jota strike to see off Blackburn

Brentford 3 Blackburn Rovers 1

Second-half goals from Andre Gray and Jota saw Brentford return to winning ways in style at Griffin Park.

Rudy Gestede’s equaliser for Blackburn cancelled out Jonathan Douglas’ strike, but Mark Warburton’s side regained control after the break.

Boss Warburton called for a positive response after his team after their great run was ended by a defeat at Huddersfield last weekend.

And his players delivered, producing another fine display in front of their home fans to stay fifth in the Championship table.

Douglas put the hosts ahead just after the quarter-hour mark, nudging Jake Bidwell’s shot into the net.

But Rovers responded strongly and forced two good saves from keeper David Button before eventually levelling on the stroke of half-time.

Button kept out Ben Marshsall’s shot and dived bravely at the feet of Alex Baptiste but was unable to rescue his team when Gestede fired into the bottom corner following Craig Conway’s cross.

Brentford hit back 10 minutes after the restart when Gray netted after being set up by Jota – the striker’s ninth goal of the season and sixth in his last seven last matches.

And after Marshall had headed Conway’s cross against the post and headed just over from a free-kick, Jota put the game beyond Blackburn’s reach.

The Spaniard dribbled his way towards the box and then picked up the loose ball after Conway’s tackle on Douglas before applying the finish.

Brentford: Button, Odubajo, Dean, Craig, Bidwell, Douglas, Pritchard (Smith 87), Diagouraga, Jota (Dallas 76), Judge, Gray (Proschwitz 87).
