Forshaw backs ‘brilliant’ Bees manager

Middlesbrough’s ex-Brentford midfielder Adam Forshaw believes his former boss Mark Warburton will not be short of offers when he leaves Griffin Park.

Forshaw, who was signed by Warburton from Everton in 2012, will return to west London with Boro for Friday’s Championship play-off semi-final first leg.

It will be Warburton’s last home match in charge as he is leaving after disagreements with owner Matthew Benham over the future direction of the club.

“Mark has done a fantastic job. He’s been brilliant for Brentford since he came in as sporting director and he’s not going to struggle for another job,” Forshaw told West London Sport.

“I have a fantastic relationship with Mark and [assistant manager] David Weir. I owe a lot to them for giving me my chance.

“I listened to Mark on the radio just a few days ago and obviously he’s got his ideas about the way things should be done, which are different to the owner’s.”

Forshaw left Brentford for Wigan last summer and was snapped up by Boro in January.

“You couldn’t write it, could you? It’s been a strange season for me and made all the more stranger when we drew Brentford,” he said.

“Having played there I know the talent and the bond the team has. They deserve to be in the position they’re in and they will think they have a good chance against us.

“I’m really looking forward to the game. It’s going to be tough over 180 minutes but we are confident players and believe we can win over two legs.”
