McAleny turns down Brentford return

Everton forward Conor McAleny says he turned down the chance to rejoin Brentford on loan because he does yet feel fully fit following his broken leg.

The 21-year-old impressed after joining last summer but his loan deal was cut short when he was injured against Walsall only five games into the season.

McAleny recently returned to action for Everton’s Under-21 side and Brentford manager Mark Warburton was keen to bring him back for the end-of-season run-in as the Bees chase promotion.

But McAleny told West London Sport: “I just don’t quite feel ready yet. I’d have to be 100%, especially while they’re pushing for promotion.

“I’m just not quite there right now. It wouldn’t be fair to me or to Brentford if I came back.”

Warburton is still keen to add a player to his squad before Thursday’s loan deadline.

He also missed out on injured Cardiff City winger Kadeem Harris, who was on loan at Griffin Park earlier this season.
