Brentford’s Jota undergoes ankle surgery

Brentford playmaker Jota has undergone surgery on an ankle ligament injury.

The Spaniard, 24, was injured during his team’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich on the opening day of the season and is expected to be sidelined for three to four months.

Summer signing Andreas Bjelland, who suffered knee ligament damage in last week’s League Cup defeat against Oxford, is due to have an operation on Wednesday.

Bjelland, who is likely to miss the rest of the season, has been assessed by a specialist in his native Denmark.

Brentford have endured an injury-hit start to the campaign, with summer signing Josh McEachran among the other players sidelined.

McEachran is out with a foot problem, while Lewis Macleod and Marcos Tebar are recovering from hamstring injuries.
