Brentford release Smith and Proschwitz

Tommy Smith has been released by Brentford along with fellow forward Nick Proschwitz.

Former QPR man Smith, 35, signed a one-year deal when he joined the Bees last summer and has been told he will not be offered a new contract.

Proschwitz, 28, failed to impress after moving to Griffin Park from Hull City a year ago and the club have duly opted not to take up an option to extend his contract.

Goalkeeper Richard Lee previously announced that he would be retiring when his deal ends this summer.

Outgoing Brentford manager Mark Warburton said: “Richard has been an excellent mentor for the young keepers at the club as well as being an outstanding professional and a very talented goalkeeper.

“He has battled a series of injuries and yet never wavered in terms of his focus and application and I have no doubts that he will go on to forge a successful career in whatever field he chooses.”
