Boss McClaren expects ‘risky’ football

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has predicted an entertaining game against Brentford with both sides committed to “risky” football.

The Rams pay their second visit to west London in the space of five days, having beaten Fulham 5-2 in the League Cup at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.

McClaren said he was looking forward to the match against the Championship newcomers and praised the Bees’ attacking intent.

He said: “Mark Warburton and his team deserve a lot of credit for playing that brand of football, getting out of League One and carrying it on in the Championship.

“That takes courage to do that, as a coach and as players, and at times, it can be risky. We know all about that, we did that on Tuesday and we scored five and conceded two goals.

“They are our principles, though, and it looks like they are Mark’s principles. I like that and I look forward to the game.

“It will be a good battle, tactical, and it is tough place to go.”
