Bees can win promotion – Holloway

Millwall manager Ian Holloway has heaped praise on Brentford, insisting they are “four years ahead” of his team and can win promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Bees’ win over the Lions moved them up to sixth in the table, while Millwall slipped to 18th and Holloway admitted he was jealous of newly-promoted Brentford’s progress.

“Who’s going to stop them being promoted? The only thing that will stop them is if their players stop believing it or they get a lot of injuries,” he said after his side lost 3-2.

“The job their manager Mark Warburton and the club are doing is absolutely fantastic. They’re better than they were under the previous manager – so what an appointment he is.

“They’re four years ahead of where we are and I have to say I’m a little bit jealous.

“They’ve gone away to Nottingham Forest and done it, beat Derby the week before, and I will admit they are the only team that have come here and deserved to win.

“I’ve been a manager a long time and I can see what they’re doing. It’s a level above us and it’s close to the highest level I’ve ever managed against.

“We knew they’d press and pick our pockets and we worked on it with the lads but we’ve got a mountain to climb to get to where they are.”
