Smith: It would be lovely to finish above QPR

Brentford boss Dean Smith says his team are determined to finish above QPR as London’s top club in the Championship this season.

The Bees, who travel to Hull City on Tuesday, are three places above 13th-placed Rangers in the table.

Both sides will finish above west London neighbours Fulham, who play Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday.

Smith told the Bees’ website: “All we can concentrate on is ourselves but it would be nice to go on and remain undefeated in all our upcoming games.

CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE
                           Played   Points   GD
10 Brentford      43          59         0
11 Preston         44          58         -1
12 Leeds            44          58         -7
13 QPR               44          57          0

“We are always aware of what the supporters’ thoughts are and the local bias that they have in finishing above some of the local rivals.

“We know that would be lovely and we are above them all at the moment with a game in hand.

“Hopefully we can get the points to give us some breathing space in that regard.”

Brentford beat QPR at Griffin Park this season

Philipp Hofmann is back in the squad for the Hull game and could feature against the Tigers.

Smith said: “Philipp Hofmann is back to full training and he will be back in the squad for the next few games.

“He is one that needs game time in the Championship. Andy Gogia got on on Saturday and Konstantin Kerschbaumber has played in the last couple of games and done well.

“There are a number of players who haven’t had as many minutes as they would like in the Championship and are still learning about it.”
