Dijkhuizen hails Brentford loanee Canos

Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen praised the impact of Liverpool loanee Sergi Canos after the 2-1 win over Preston.

Teenager Canos, who is with the Bees until January, came on after an hour at 1-0 down and immediately set up the equaliser for Lasse Vibe.

Another loan signing, Red Bull Salsburg striker Marco Djuricin, then grabbed the winner five minutes later.

But it was Canos, on his second appearance for the club, who earned the plaudits from Dijkhuizen.

He said: “Sergi brought a lot of quality. Sometimes it’s difficult for subs to come on and get to the intensity of the game, so I was a little bit surprised by his [instant] quality.

“But he gave a boost to the team. At Leeds he had a good 10 minutes as well.

“Technically he’s had a very good education. But he’s come from an Under-21 team so he’s not used to this level. I think it’s good to bring him on slowly if possible.”

Dijkhuizen was pleased with the way his side responded to going a goal down after just 32 seconds, as they earned their first win in five league games.

He added: “In the first 15 minutes we were struggling but we got better and better in the game and you got the feeling it could go our way but we were struggling with [taking our] chances.”

Full-back Maxime Colin missed the game with a knee injury sustained in training on Friday and the club are awaiting scan results.

James Tarkowski was also absent, with a calf problem, but Dijkhuizen expects him to be fit for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday next week.
