Boss ‘disappointed’ despite Bees win

Brentford boss Mark Warburton said his team were “disappointed” not to have beaten Brighton by more than a single goal.

Andre Gray’s deflected first-half shot, which looped over Seagulls goalkeeper David Stockdale, was enough to earn the Bees three points at the Amex.

Brighton were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark but Brentford couldn’t kill the game off, with Stockdale denying Alex Pritchard and Jonathan Douglas, and Jon Toral dallying in front of an open goal.

Warburton said: “They’re disappointed in there. That’s how far this group of players has come.

“Brighton have a great team, we have enormous respect for them and Chris Hughton, but we’re disappointed because we didn’t take our chances.

“It will be reported as a victory that has been ground out by Brentford but make it 2-0 or 3-0 and it sends out a powerful message.”

The Brentford boss also confirmed he was looking to add to his squad before the window closes on 2 February.

He added: “There’s one or two targets that are very close.

“But they’ve got to add value to the team, on and off the pitch. It’s a really harmonious group and if you get the wrong character you can spoil that.”
